Meet Our Reception Staff

Jane Broughton

Jane, has been working for us since 1993 and is our Reception Manager. She trains our new reception staff and deals with most of our client insurance claims, in 2006 she won the Petplan Insurance Advisor of the year!
Jane is the “Mum” of the practice, always there with a shoulder for people who need it. She has two Jack Russells – Wesley and Winston and a cat – George (You can read his story here).
Jane enjoys visits to Derbyshire and can often be found in her caravan there.

Jo-Anne Howitt

Jo is our Deputy Reception Manager. She has been with us since 2000 and is qualified up to Level 2 in British Sign Language. Jo is available on reception Monday – Thursday 9–12.30, and on a Friday afternoon.

Outside of work Jo has 3 children, 3 cats called ‘Limey, Tinky and Pearl’, 6 royal pythons called ‘Venus, Yorkie, Johnny 5, Jovi, Pye, Bo’, and 1 corn snake called ‘Kebab’.

Jo’s hobbies include swimming, walking and motor racing.

Julie Banks

Julie has worked at the practice as a Receptionist since 2005. She owns 3 dogs – one that is adopted from the local RSPCA.

Julie makes visits to France which ties in well with her love of red wine, reading, walking and football (Nottingham Forest of course).

Sam Whitney

Sam started working as a receptionist at Ashfield House in September 2002. She is our Saturday receptionist and has 2 dogs – Oscar and Paddy; and 2 Rex rabbits Roobarb and Neelee.

Sam also started her own business Safe and Sound Pet Sitters in August 2007.

Ann Beatson

Ann joined the practice in January 2009 as a weekday Receptionist. It is her first job as a Receptionist as Ann was previously self-employed for 23 years, she was the PA for a lady with MS and she worked for a local travel company.

Ann has 4 pets who apparently all sit together happily in the lounge. Barney is an old black Labrador who attends our weight clinics; Monty is a young Lab/Spaniel who looks nothing like either breed; there is Sophie the cat and Angel the rabbit who is quite at home with them all!

Caroline Gant

Caroline joined the Spondon team as a Receptionist in September 2008. Prior to working for us, Caroline worked as an Accountant. Her love of animals meant a change of career path for her.

She has one cat at home called Cleo and we are sure that, like most of our staff, she will acquire another pet.

Jane Keenan

Jane has worked for Ashfield since May 2012 as a receptionist she can usually be found at our Bramcote and Long Eaton branches manning the front desk.
Jane is a qualified Pet plan insurance advisor and has been nominated for Pet plan receptionist of the year 2013 and again in 2014!
Jane is currently working towards her Hills Veterinary nutritional advisor Certificate.

Jane is very keen to learn more hands on skills with the animals and can be regularly found in our hospital wards lending a hand to the vets and nurses.

Leah Thompson

I have been working for Ashfield since 2015. After several retail jobs, I decided on a career change and love every minute on reception. I have a BTEC advanced diploma in animal management after studying at Broomfield Hall.

I always like to try and lend a hand where possible round the hospital and eventually would like to train to become a vet nurse. I’m also keen on taking a course in animal behaviour and training.

I own one Yorkie cross named Poppy who is very cheeky, one little budgie named Pip, and an elderly little rabbit named Bertie
