🐾🐶 CALLING ALL LARGE BREED DOG OWNERS! 🐾🐶
Do you own a Dobermann, Labrador, German Shepherd, Boxer, St Bernard, Great Dane, Wolfhound or Newfoundland?*
Have you heard of a heart condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)?
WE ARE PLEASED TO BE OFFERING DISCOUNTED BLOOD TEST SCREENING FOR DCM IN AT RISK BREEDS IN CONJUNCTION WITH AN ONGOING STUDY.
As you may be aware, certain large and giant breed dogs over the age of 3 are at an increased risk of developing DCM.
There are two phases to this disease; firstly a long “silent” phase, in which the heart has the disease and is slowly deteriorating but there are no outward signs of a problem yet.
Dogs in this first phase appear outwardly healthy and happy.
The second phase is a shorter “overt” phase where the heart can no longer cope and starts to fail. At this point outward signs of the disease start to be seen.
We are delighted to be involved in a study looking at blood test screening for at risk breeds. This blood test looks for an enzyme released by the heart in response to stretching of the muscle fibres.
It has been shown to be a good indicator of the presence of DCM in Dobermanns, and now a further study is ongoing regarding the use of this test in other breeds.
To take advantage of our screening test, just give us a telephone call on your usual branch number and request to be booked in for the “DCM blood test screening”**.
The cost of this will be £31.20, for which you will get a full clinical examination and consultation, and of course the blood test looking for the cardiac enzyme markers.
If anything abnormal is found during this screening blood test, our veterinary surgeons will call you to discuss this further. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
*Although the at risk breeds are the main ones involved in this blood testing, if you own a dog not mentioned in the list and they weigh over 25kg, please give us a telephone call to check eligibility – we may be able to include you in the offer as well!
With her jolly attitude, loyalty and dedication she’s a delight to have around. Thank you Lou-Lou!
