Dental Care
Dental disease is extremely common amongst pets, resulting in halitosis (bad breath), gum infections, tooth root abscesses and associated pain. Dental disease can even result in the spread of bacteria across the bloodstream, which can affect the heart, kidneys and other organs.
- Dental Procedures
Dental checks are carried out during routine appointments, where our vets are best placed to advise regarding ongoing care. This may be a recommendation for a particular food, toothpaste or mouthwash, or you may be advised to book your pet in for a dental procedure.
Our dental procedures are carried out under general anaesthetic, to ensure your pets mouth is thoroughly assessed.
They are monitored under anaesthetic by our fabulous nursing team, including several nurses with post graduate certificates in anaesthesia. A scale and polish will be conducted, including under the gum line (where most bacteria that cause gingivitis are located).
If your pet needs any teeth extracting, our veterinary surgeons are confident in placing local anaesthetic blocks as well as utilising multi-modal analgesia (pain relief) to ensure your pet is as comfortable as possible.
We also have an advanced dental x-ray machine at our Long Eaton hospital, so we are able to take detailed x-rays of your pets teeth to ensure any root problems are also identified.
Our veterinary team consists of post graduate certificate holders in surgery, who are also able to undertake reconstructive dental procedures post trauma (for example road traffic accidents).
